Philips are a bit rough now, when they put the sodium in, it seems to be `thrown` in all around the cathodes!!, I have a few like this, but it does go to the other end after a few hours running. Great close up shot though.

Hi Rich

I agree it seems that they don't give a F*** about the manufacture of the SOX lamp no more, what they don't seem to realise with Sodium at the cathode end it will attack the Seals, Electrodes etc which causes a drastic loss of life, which you think thye would need to sort out considering the price of SOX lamps these days (about £30 to £200 depending on the Wattage).

why can't they maks SOX lamps like THIS considering this is almost 39 years old

All the Best

SOX lamps are dreadful examples of manufacturing now. I'm finding the arc tubes don't line vertical anymore in lanterns, the supports are wonky and flake apart at the top, the electrodes are never central sometimes nearly touching the tube wall and my most recent looks like the inside has been painted with white wash and sand paper run up the inside. The coating is opaque and scratched. Compared to my older 180W sox and old GEC they look bad. I remember these old Philips and they are so well made.
