90s model! The red LED and Thorn logo give that away! Switchstart no doubt?
Deffo 90's as some 1998 ones I saw there was no logo. Only real flaw with these battens was flimsy lampholders?
Yes, got the original battery pack (which has failed) dated '98! Yes the lampholders are a bit weak and the steel is a little on the thin side but it's alright! The lampholder seen here with the hole for the LED has the old logo but the one at the other end has the current one.

Even flimsier steel in the SS ones they made until recently that had Tridonics in them. Good chokes in the 90's ones though.

Cool you need to install this Eliot just incase you get a power cut! what size batteries does that take? 4xD? Fairly reliable units so I am surprised that batteries have failed. Does this have the green inner coating?

Takes a 5x D battery pack, quite weighty! Yeah, has the old greeny gold interior and atlas branded control gear. It would be nice to install it but I don't have anywhere suitable! I'm keeping my eyes open for any decent compact 4w EM fittings though.

Yes these do weigh a fair bit! Paul has one! You need one of those Bardic 4w bulkheads Eliot! The ones that fit on a double 47mm deep back box! Used to look awesome recessed! The tube was on the diagonal and of course, they were the size of a double socket!

Yes I know the ones Tom! Just can't find any! Menvier used to do a nice one too, don't know the model but they have a shallow mounting plate that contains the terminal block and the fitting simply plugs into it!

Remember that 4W one I recently re batteried and green LEDed?

Always thought it was a shame when Thorn did away with that logo with the thorn 'spike' bit. New one is just boring font...
