Thorn Alpha 5 also, designed for the SLI, you can see the lantern is a few inches bigger than the 135 SOX.

Certainly a very intriguing column given the location and how it's now enclosed by trees and bushes suggests it has been out of action for at least 30 years! I wouldn't be surprised if the base is still live and it's just a matter of popping the fuse back in!

The lantern is still there, look at the photo - the lamp seems too short for a linear sodium lamp.

I want to but this lantern is not over any hardstanding, so I think the idea of a cherry picker would be out of the question. I may take a pic of this in situ... see what ideas we can come up with.
