Does anyone use indandescent GLS anymore?

Monday CFL
Tuesday LED
Today Incandescent - I've put the 3 x 60 watt clear candle incandescent lamps in the ceiling fan that were in there ages ago. I haven't used any in the house for months and boy aren't they soft - just like candle light. The Radar likes them too so I've gone online and ordered a shed load of GLS perls and come candles. They seemed to be readily available on ebay for between 50p-£1 depending on quantity bought.

Does anyone else use them still use/buy Incandescent GLS?

I think the only filament lamp I have in use is the one in the oven.
My parents still use a couple around the house.

Don't use any in my home any more and I've not had any installed now for years. Use a combination of LED and compacts. I do have several hundred GLS lamps in various wattages in stock as I have customers who still request them, tho starting to think I might have more than I'll ever be able to sell. Still, there we go....

Good point Andy! Thinking about it I still have 4 incandescent lamps in my house! Oven, microwave, fridge & extractor unit have incandescent lights.

I have 2 x 40watt candle GLS in the cooker hood, (although rarely used).
3 x 15watt Pygmys, one in the fridge, one in the microwave, and one in the central heating cupboard where the control clock is.
Then 2 x 60watt Halogens in the `flame effect` portion of the fire!, so a total of 7 in use, (on and off), the rest is LED/fluorescent for the main house lights, but I bet I have over 200 spares from 15watt to 200!, including coloureds, clears, perls and halogens! :doh , so far too many!

GU10 downlighters, who the hell ever thought that was a great idea?! Need to go back in time and 'Terminate' them!! :rofl :rofl

GU10 halogens are a bad idea, the 50s run far too hot, and their not the best quality either, failing within a year!, 35s and 20s would suit better, but with GU10 LED prices falling like bricks, (Wickes`s own ones are very good, and its what I use at work along with MiniSuns), is the best option.

I think the only place we still have one here is in a lava lamp, don't think LED's would get warm enough for that

Everywhere else is LED, apart from the bathroom which has a 28W 2D fitting. Looking to replace that at some point though.

Ria :woohoo

I use incandescent GLS in some outdoor applications although I'm currently testing a CFL on the South wall. I leave incandescent lamps indoor where they are rarely used (cellar, attic,...). As I also have sensor with a dimmer in the staircase that requiere 25 VA minimum (timer set to 5 minutes), I still use them daily :)

Don't use them in any significant numbers for general lighting now. One outside in a bulkhead, an architectural lamp over the headboard in the bedroom and that's it.

I do have quite a collection of lava and glitter lamps though which will only operate correctly with incandescent lamps. So there's a couple of dozen or so that get occasional use in those.

Hi, new member here.
I use almost no incandescent GLS lamps these days, indeed I often think that I have eliminated the last one, until I find another !

My washing machine is in a walk in cupboard fitted with a 60 watt incandescent which should outlast me as it is very little used. A few hours a year, so it should last at least a century.

I do have a stock of incandescent lamps for things like load testing UPS units, as dropper resistances and as low powered heat sources.

Hi, sorry for the delay, only just spotted this post. Do I detect a railway influence in your username..? :D

We don't really have any incandescent lamps in general use, we tend to use halogens, although we do have a couple of LED GLS retrofits in the bedroom and the hall. Oh and there's a 28W 2D in the bathroom. At least you can still buy halogens, although I wouldn't put it past the EU or someone to ban those as well soon :-?

Halogens are already on the way out, banned by the end of the year.

The bans are government backed so I've been told, so I wouldn't expect anything to change.

Unfortunately the market for traditional lighting technology is pretty much dead now. I work in electrical wholesale, and it's probably been two years now since I've seen anything other than LED specified for a new installation. Sad I know but that's the way things are.

I think it was Richard (slyspark) on here who told me he has sometimes had to resort to eBay to find HID lamps/fixtures for fitting in customers' premises, just how crazy is that :doh

Soon the only place you will find HID lamps is in our collections, and that will be a sad day as far as I'm concerned. :crying

And we can't forget about CFLs and their bigger brothers. :(
