I'm wondering when exactly other types of control gear started to appear for fluorescent tubes other than a series choke and starter switch?
Quickstart seems to have been around for a long time, more frequently referred to as 'instant start' in older catalogues, I'm not sure when it was introduced though?
The same goes for Semi-Resonant Start, I've heard this was Thorn's invention but I'm not sure when exactly it was invented? Seems to be late 60s or early 70s?

Atlas/Thorn invented 'Quickstart' way back in 1947 which soon led on to dimmable fluorescents. The others soon cottoned on with names such as Rapid start (US)' instant start'(Osram/GEC) and 'snapstart' (Crompton). I reckon SRS, also pioneered by Thorn, was mid to late 60s.
I LOVE LAMP!
