20W CDM R and Magnetic Ballasts

Postby Kev » Sun Jul 31, 2011 7:57 pm

Following on from the topic about running these on magnetic ballasts i did try to light on straight off of a Tridonic EC18 as suggested by james. It did not light? What about adding a standard starter to the circuit?

Any ideas would be helpful!!

I don't know the starting voltage for the 20W lamps but the 35W ones are still around 3.5Kv so mains voltage alone is not enough to get them going. A starter switch might not do it either, I'd say just try a suitable 35W MH ignitor. An EC18 might be an okay ballast, the current should lower cause the lamp voltage of the 20W CDM-R is a lot higher than a 20W fluorescent.

All you can do is try! :D The lamp current and voltage should be around 2.15A 93V if you do get it going and can measure the current and voltage.
