Maybe they could produce some 1950's style (long out of production) lamps for all the collectors with it then....

Given that all magnetic ballasts are also being banned in favour of 'more efficient' (cough) high frequency control gear, it will come to the point where you can't buy a ballast once supplies are exhausted. Given they both look identical, other than the Crompton or Philips sticker on one side and either Philips or Crompton printed on the control gear, I'd guess they originated from the same factory, so either Philips were making them for Crompton (which would be my guess) or Crompton were making them f...

As far as I'm aware, from the start of 2015 it will be illegal to produce or import mercury lamps into the EU

They are indeed getting rid of them, most have now been replaced either wih WRTL Libra 55w PL-L lanterns, or WRTL Arc fittings running 140w Cosmo White lamps. I have some of the cranleigh mercury lanterns in my collection now as a result... The lighting in Surrey now looks the same wherever you are,...
