Re: Coloured Metal Halide Lamps

Not too long ago the entire length of Buchanan street in Glasgow was lit with blue and white halides in twin optic lanterns. It was really unique and quirky, the shadows it would create on the ground were funky. I think I have a photo somewhere; from what I remember the installation deteriorated tho...

Re: Questions: SRS instant start and tube banding

I've got an old Philips 15W tube that has viewing windows burned into it. The ends are black as it was run on manual preheat gear and probably had a hard life ... still works though! I suspected lamp "newness" might have been a factor in SRS circuits instant starting. I guess I'll just nee...

Re: Questions: SRS instant start and tube banding

The cap is 5.5 mfd which is right. The caps have been tested as well and measure ok. Just tried hot starting this circuit, still came straight on. It's an odd one!

Thanks for your info re tube banding.

I have tried it so far with 3 tubes and the majority of the time they either fire up to full brightness straight away, or d...

Re: Does anyone use indandescent GLS anymore?

The flat I'm moving into has stupidly high ceilings and GU10 downlighters everywhere. Not only do I hate incandescent GU10 lamps (because they're ***** ) but I have no means of getting up to change them. So you can guess right that they'll be used only on very special occasions and I'll be lig...

Re: Does anyone use indandescent GLS anymore?

I have a fair stock of them, and that's even after giving some away recently as I overbought. I probably have about 10 of the modern maxim 40/60/100 rough service, several Philips classictone and a box of 25 NOS early 90s Thorns, as well as a few boxes of halogens (osram, morrisons own brand etc). R...
