Re: Ballast for 14W t12 tube

Here in the US its the same ballast for both 14w T12 and 15w T12 (weather you're talking magnetic or electronic).. That's odd. The operating specs (voltage, current) are different. Unless it's just accepted that it'll work and run an acceptable lifetime on a 15W ballast. Yep, for magnetic its just ...

Re: First Blue LEDs?

@peterhoult: Most of the time what I see labeled as 'Pink' LEDs are not Pink , but instead Magenta (still a nice colour, but its not pink LOL) I did find some actual pink sets at one store (5mm-LED single-colour which is what I want) I'd love to get a few more sets. Some places sell actual purple se...

Re: First Blue LEDs?

Don't remember when I saw my 1st blue LED ... it might have been when i bought a couple at a local electronics store (which is now long gone), or could have on a been a string of blue LED Christmas Lights @Tom: I wonder if that "turquoise-ish colour " LED was actually a Cyan ? Re: A couple of very interesting things...

I like F54T5's (am using some as plant lights .. where I had F40T12's before) so nice & bright...but who knows how long the HF gear will do.

Would love to have a mag ballast for T5's

Re: Poor build quality of HF

All that is as long as al components are good quality. If they are not then it will blow way faster This is the key phrase "good quality"... I think these days all electronics ( -everything- not just ballasts) are made with one thing in mind: "lowest possible manufacturing cost" quality doesn't mat...

Re: Poor build quality of HF

I can't measure temps - other than feel the over-all temp (those old magnetic RS ballasts are basically a sealed unit). And it doesn't feel overly hot or anything. The RS ballasts here also have a thermal protector so if they overheat they simply shut down. ------ Interestingly HF ballasts don't see...

Re: Poor build quality of HF

@Ash: Yep a 2-lamp ballast (wired in 1-lamp mode) should do better since i believe its a bit higher OCV (plus the ballast wouldn't be overdriven)..I have some extra 2x F40 ballasts laying around and do plan to try that sometime @funkylamp: Yep I'm sure arc voltage / current is probably wrong...but i...

Re: Poor build quality of HF

I got a F54T5 HO to fire up on a F40T12 HPF magnetic rapid-start ballast but... It was slow to come on It overdrives the ballast (total wattage with the T5 is 66w where total with a T12 is 50w) Interesting test... might work better with a F32T8 HPF rapid-start (rare item thoug) -------- On the origi...

Jay these experiments are a MUST! A 9Ft Switch start would be like    Believe me..if I ever see one of those 9-footers I will find a way to get it home (won't fit in the car like 8-footers do . probably barrow my mothers car...) Switch-starting would be its first test  7....

Re: THE END OF T12!!!!!!!!!!!

The USA 110W 8ft lamp is classified as HO, and it can run on 125W-like Switch Start. So i guess that 100/125 dont fall far away from the definition of HO, maybe a change in the etch is all whats needed ? The only thing I found with trying to run a 110W 8ft HO on a UK 125W Switch Start ballast is th...

XmasLightGuy, could you explain why, in the U.S., on appliance leads White is Neutral and Black is Active, I have nearly been caught out a few times when I was younger and I have seen fully licscenced sparkys get caught out connecting the brown on the Australian/EU lead to the white on the piece of...

Re: Colour Temperature Preferences In The Home?

For a kitchen I prefer 3000k, same for a familyroom or livingroom..
For a garage or shop or utility room 4100k
------
This year I did an upgrade to the basement familyroom in my parents house...it now has 3000k and 6500k, so you can choose either one. I love that setup.

8 foot 100W 840 is VERY efficient with 93 Lm/W Comparing that to a 110w here, It would pass next year's lamp ban! ( <4500k requires 92 Lm/W ) ----- @kevxsi16v If i eventually get hold of a 8' HO T8 I'll have to test it on that switch-start ballast you sent ... just to see if it'll even light LOL (t...

@close9 I went & added my YouTube info to my profile (LOL I'd forgotten you could even do that..)

@kevxsi16v The 8' HO lamps here are 94 inches, so that with those larger lampholders it works out to 96.
(same thing on the standard wattage single pin slimline lamps :) )
