Re: Does anyone use indandescent GLS anymore?

I think the only filament lamp I have in use is the one in the oven.
My parents still use a couple around the house.

Re: 70s Street lighting Vid

I enjoyed watching that.

The lack of road markings and lanes didn't help back then, but even though it was a free for all on the roads - I didn't notice any aggression.

Re: Kino-Flo T12 Tubes Our 8' Prayers Answered?

Those 8ft tubes would be perfect. I could just imagine a pair of the 5500k ones in my twin Streamlite!
However I've not got £123.54 (inc delivery) to spend on them at the present time sadly.

Re: T4?

I wouldn't say T4 has any benfits over T5 whatsoever. As Tom says T4 tubes come in random wattages and lengths with absolutely no standardisation between manufacturers making replacement tubes a nightmare. Generally though the crappy fittings fail before the tube does so finding a replacement tubes ...

Re: My trip down to Cheltenham

The M1 where the A42 joins it around J23A is a great section of SOX lighting on short columns at both side of the road and in the central reservation. Always enjoy this section at night!

I've never seen these before. Would love to see how these look especially in a lineup against an 865, 880 and one of Kev's 17000k tubes :)

Re: fittings up for Grabs or going to be skipped

If anyone is interested, there's two PP65 fittings - one just needs a new lampholder assembly at one end. There is also a 3ft Arrowslim. I also have a grey sided Atlas 5ft fitting free to a good home if anyone wants it!

Re: LED Panel vs. Fluorescent Mod

Just goes to show how stupid and easily led (excuse the pun) some people are with the hype surrounding LED technology. Nearly every lighting replacement scheme except one I saw a couple of weeks ago was a downgrade with at least half the light output and probably less than a tenth of the lifespan of...

Re: SON/MV compatability

Where I live there are quite a few 80w mercury lanterns still in service and for a number of years one stretch of road has got a number of 70w SON lamps installed in them and they are doing fine.

Re: Dim F40W/AD when cold

I have a few T12 tubes that can be quite dim to start with before reaching full brightness. My collection is stored in the loft which is very cold at this time of year so I notice this quite a bit. It tends to be the longer tubes and generally happens with those that contain less mercury. The 125w S...

Re: What Colour is Northlight?

Northlight and Artificial Daylight are two of my favourite fluorescent lamp colours. Northlight is 6200k @ 94 CRI and AD is 6500k @ 95 CRI with a bit of UV as Eliot says. AD would be my choice between the two for a windowless office but they are quite rare these days. Where I used to work I fitted S...

I see, just seems a bit strange that they used two different chokes but I guess there is a good reason!

Re: Fitzgerald 8ft Twin Fitting

Thanks Tom! However I've now realised that I made a bit of a mistake. I had quite a few fittings out and wasn't paying proper attention  and in fact the other ballast is actually just a regular Fitzgerald 100w choke without the series capacitor. Do you know if this is the standard setup? I'm a...

Fitzgerald 8ft Twin Fitting

I have this twin 8ft Fitzgerald fitting and on the coverplate it states "This fitting must only be used with 8ft 100w tubes" However inside are two Tridonic EC 125 chokes that state 125w 240cm tubes. Each choke has a 7.2uf caps in series. To me these fittings are perfect for 125w tubes so ...

Re: MBF v PL-C, what would you go with?

MBF would be my choice Rich!
As you say 60 GLS is a pretty standard lamp in an outdoor bulkhead so the 50w MBF is practically the same consumption for a lot more lumens.

Re: ALDI LED "Pear" 10 watt bulb

Still can't really see the point of LED in household lighting. If the 10w LED replaces 60w GLS it's no real improvement on most regular and much cheaper CFLs which provide the same amount of light at about 11 or 12 watts. When they can get a 60w GLS LED replacement down to about 5w or less than it m...

I recently lit a Thorn natural weiss deluxe and a weiss universal 25 side by side and there is quite a difference between the two. I thought the the deluxe was the nicer of the two.
