Re: Another LED bites the dust

Not sure that's really true considering the Urbis kit is probably the best on the market at the moment. The likes of Holophane, Thorn, Phosco really do pale in comparison. From someone who's installed Urbis and many other brands I have to fight their corner here. The problem with something like the ...

Philips magnetic SON/MBF of pretty much any era are pretty much the dogs in my experience from grey painted in 60/70s, to brown painted in the 80s, to grey resin coated in the 90s to grey painted in the 2000s :woohoo :woohoo :woohoo

Re: Part Time street lights

They put in part night lighting to reduce burning hours and so their energy costs. If the lanterns have photocells then they can hopefully just swap to part night ones and the SOX will remain.

Yes in Somerset for casual replacements they use Axias on Group B roads and Teceo 2s on Group A roads.

Re: Greeted by LED main road street lights! NOT IMPRESSED!!

I agree that Stelas are pretty awful looking things. The reason they use cool white over warm white is that it has higher efficacy. But I do think the warm colour does look better.

Re: Mass failure or nodes doing their job???

The nodes wouldn't automatically do something as technical as this. Theoretically you could do something like this by putting certain units into groups with altered switching times but I very much doubt anyone would go to that effort. All a bit weird Rich!

Re: 70watt SON-I`s on external ignition gear!!!

Never had one blow up Rich. I've seen loads of SON-I lamps on circuits with ignitors and never seen any go like that! Normally if the external ignitor is good you get some flicking from the glow bottle and it strikes OK.

Really interesting info James. I always wondered why some 18w gear had ignitors and others run fine with none!

Yeah the ML lamps are notoriously hard on lamp holders so one of those all plastic push together types that they like to provide these days wouldn't really be up to the job. Top marks for getting discharge lighting out there mate :)

Re: Question for Davy?

Hi Rich, that's an interesting one there. I wonder if it's something to do with the crash barrier along that section of road. If you notice all the Sapphires are along a section with wide grass verges that a tower could park up on off the road. The 2 SOX columns and another few pairs beyond it have ...

Always a pleasure reading your posts Jeremy :)
If you find you have any spare 4w bulkheads I'd defo be interested in one.
That 6w twin sounds interesting- another wattage of tube which is pretty uncommon now. They used to be quite common in early sign lights but 8w's phased them out in the end.

Lloyds Bank

Something just reminded me of an old fitting which used to be in my local bank when I was a kid. It was a wall mounted fluorescent sign box light which had the green Lloyds Bank with black horse front sign, and a prismatic lens on the lower side shining down the deposit point below. Now at some poin...
