Ha! Been waiting for this to be discovered! Have a guess!

Plasma ball under the board its on?

Fine wire through the paper and wrapped around the pins?

Eliot has got it! Single copper strands wrapped around the pins!

Very nicely done!

Reminds me of an exhibit in London science museum which had a 3ft T8 tube suspended in clear acrylic brackets in a glass case and a button with the words 'See how the tube lights with no wires'. To my great disappointment it didn't as there was another notice 'Sorry - Currently out of order'

There was some awesome lighting related exhibits at the Science Museum! Who remembers the big plasma ball with an 8w T5 inside a plastic sleeve for us to play with? Or the hand cranked dynamo driving a Philips 15w T8 with preheated cathodes? The best part of course was the entire top floor devoted to lighting! Heaven!

Ah yes Tom, 1983 when I was there, my parents kept me of school for a few days for a little holiday! There were lots of working exhibits there which made it very interesting as some museums can easily on the boring side! I also got to see the interesting lighting on the trains the unique Tube station lighting.
